Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) today announced that Cheryl H. Johnson has been
named executive vice president, human resources of the company,
effective July 1, 2012. She succeeds John D. Butler, 64, who is retiring
after 15 years of outstanding service to Textron.
Johnson has been serving as the director of talent and organizational
development for Textron's Bell Helicopter business since 2011,
responsible for Bell's talent recruitment and succession process as well
as optimizing its overall organization design. Johnson joined Textron in
1996 and over the years has held various human resources leadership
positions across Textron's businesses, including senior human resources
business partner for Greenlee from 2005 to 2006 and vice president of
human resources for E-Z-GO, a position which she held from 2006 until
joining Bell in 2009 as human resources director.
Before joining Textron, Johnson's career encompassed multi-industry and
multi-functional management roles spanning human resources, marketing
and sales, and finance disciplines as well as retail, public
administration and aerospace and defense industries.
Johnson will report directly to Textron Chairman and CEO, Scott
Donnelly. "Cheryl has proven herself to be a highly successful human
resources leader," said Donnelly. "I am confident that her human
resources experience--combined with her well-rounded background--will
bring a valuable perspective to our human resources organization,
keeping it focused on supporting our customers and developing our
employees in the best ways possible."
In reference to John D. Butler, Donnelly added, "Since joining Textron
in 1997, John has been a driving force in shaping the strategy and
operations of Textron and positioning the company for future growth.
Under his leadership, the human resources function has eliminated costly
legacy systems and successfully implemented competitive benefits and
labor strategies throughout Textron."
"John's passion for a talented workforce at Textron has resulted in
world class practices in leadership development, succession planning and
performance management across the company," continued Donnelly. "We and
our Board are grateful for his many years of dedication and service to
the corporation and wish him the very best in his retirement."
