To Our Stockholders and Investors

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to our stockholders and investors for your extremely generous support.
Greetings to everyone.

Environment Surrounding Our Company

Since the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station arising from the Great East Japan Earthquake, the nuclear power stations all over Japan have been out of service for a protracted period, and meanwhile numerous debates concerning nuclear power, energy and so forth have taken place in various arenas. Amid such circumstances, technical deliberations on safety at nuclear power stations have been conducted by the Nuclear Regulation Authority inaugurated in September of last year, culminating in the enactment of new regulatory standards this July.
Also, the electricity industry finds itself amid immense currents of transformation, such as the deliberations that are proceeding on the nation's basic energy policy and reform of its electric power system.

Efforts for the Shimane Nuclear Power Station

In the wake of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station accident, we have led the field in undertaking safety measures and reliability enhancement measures at our Shimane Nuclear Power Station. Ensuring safety is a major prerequisite for restarting or bringing into operation the stations' units, so naturally we will be taking measures at an early stage and without fail in response to the new regulatory standards. Besides that, we will be continuing to move ahead with efforts that aim for safety of the highest levels in the world, while responding appropriately to new information, so that ours will be a power station that is reassuring for everyone.

Our Business Results and Future Efforts

Meanwhile, our business results continue to be severe, due to the stoppage of nuclear power having become long-term, thermal power costs having drastically increased, and other factors. If this situation where our nuclear power station is not operating continues, there is concern that our financial strength will further deteriorate.
Accordingly, we will be uniting efforts companywide to advance with even greater rigor the cost reductions we have engaged in to date, and furthermore will be exerting maximum efforts toward improving revenue and expenditure, in such ways as moving ahead with canceling or scaling-down various programs, while taking care to ensure supply stability and safety.

Conclusion

No matter how the business environment may change in the times ahead, there will be no change in the fact that our mission is to supply electricity stably and at low prices. Another important task for our management will be to progressively achieve competitiveness in the new business environment.
Viewing the future from the mid- and long-term perspective, Chugoku Electric will be looking to build a tough business base in terms of equipment, human resources and so forth, besides also moving ahead with efforts that will enable our profits to be achieved and competitiveness ensured even under the upcoming competitive environment, as we go all-out to expand our business.
We would like to request our stockholders and investors to give even greater understanding and support for the Chugoku Electric Group's business operations in the times ahead.
