Sustainable supply chain decision making enables economic growth and global competitiveness. Of course, such decision making must recognize the necessary balance across the "people-planet-profit" continuum. These were no doubt among the views expressed when Dow was invited to share its supply chain expertise at a White House roundtable discussion on March 30, 2012.

Hosted by the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the General Services Administration, the roundtable discussion focused on how to apply industry best practices to the federal government's $500 billion per year spend to further promote sustainable procurement practices throughout the global supply chain. Dow was among a small group of "recognized industry thought leaders" invited to the White House. Other industry participants included Unilever, Cargill, Coca-Cola, Lockheed Martin, SAP, Dell, IBM, HP and Microsoft.

Henry Ward, director of Supply Chain Transportation Safety and Security, represented Dow in the roundtable discussions. "Being invited to join this prestigious group gives Dow a rare opportunity to help define public policy options that facilitate sustainable business growth and global competitiveness. It gives us a platform to advocate further adoption of existing successful programs and reporting schemes," said Ward.
