Brian Landes, Technology Leader, Analytical Sciences was recognized recently by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) during the society's 71st Annual Technical Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. Landes was elected as an SPE Fellow of the Society, a special classification for members who "demonstrate outstanding contributions and impact in the field of plastics engineering, science or technology."

To put this honor into perspective, only 289 society members worldwide have been elected to this prestigious status since it was established in 1984. Candidates are inducted based on their professional accomplishments, written sponsorship and long-term status as a senior member of the society.

Landes is recognized internationally as one of the top scientists doing in-situ and in-operando synchrotron based experiments, and is the only industrial scientist on that list. During his career, Landes has contributed to significant advances in measurement science for studying the nanoscale behavior and response of materials in real environments. These advances have had scientific and commercial impact for the Electronic Materials, Packaging & Specialty Plastics, Polyurethanes, Systems & Automotive Solutions, and Energy Solutions businesses for Dow. In addition, he has developed unique metrology tools which have been commercialized by the global semiconductor industry. Landes earned his Ph.D. from the Pennsylvania State University in Polymer Material Science.

In the past 10 years, several Dow scientists have been elected as fellows-of-the society, including Mark Barger, Joseph Dooley, Rajen Patel, Jehuda Greener, Kaylan Sehanobish, and Mark Spalding.
