The Dow Chemical Company was recently honored with the 2012 Chemical Safety Excellence Award (CSEA) from CSX, a leading U.S. railroad company.

The CSEA recognizes Dow's leadership in chemical safety, and is given to companies that ship more than 600 carloads of hazardous materials during the year with zero releases due to shipper error.

"We are proud to earn this award and value the collaboration with CSX to drive best practices and innovative solutions," said Don Taylor, corporate vice president of Supply Chain, EH&S Operations and Operations Services.  "Earning this award not just once, but several times, reflects the caliber of people we have at Dow, and their commitment to keep our sites, communities and the environment safe."

The award also demonstrates Dow's continued commitment to Responsible Operations which is one of four pillars of Sustainability.  While railroads represent one of the most energy efficient modes of transportation for Dow, the company's first priority is to ship product safely and securely across the nation.

According to Taylor, "Our ultimate Vision is to create a corporate culture that is committed to zero accidents, injuries and excuses in all that we do, including transportation.  To achieve that, we are always striving for the next level of performance and driving a mindset that puts safety first and pounds second."

Dow is one of more than 60 companies honored with the 2012 CSEA.  Recipients represent a cross-section of industry - from chemicals and energy to technology and agriculture.
