Kenya Power has embarked on an operation through which it intends to improve the quality of power supply to its large power and domestic customers within the Industrial Area, Nairobi. The operation dubbed Boresha Stima Viwandani will be carried out over a period of 2 months and will involve master repair works such as the rehabilitation of jumpers and the realignment of high tension lines.

Speaking during the official launch of the drive, Kenya Power's Regional Manager, Nairobi South, Eng. Joshua Mwangi, said that the operation will greatly complement the efforts that the power firm has put towards reducing power interruptions for its large power and essential service customers.

Eng. Mwangi said that the operation will involve the refurbishment of ten substations namely NSSF, Nairobi South, Nairobi West, Mombasa Road, New Airport, Syokimau, and New Industrial,Athi River,Jogoo Road, and Dara.

He added that Kenya Power will invest Shs.2 billion in the next one year on construction of additional power lines dedicated to serving the large power customers who contribute approximately 60% of the power firm's energy sales.

These undertakings are part of the projects that Kenya Power is implementing throughout the country as it expands and upgrades its electricity distribution infrastructure ahead of the expected additional generation capacity of 5,000 MW by 2017. This will increase the country's effective generation capacity by about 300% from the current 1,652 MW to 6,652 MW.
