Rangers Agree To Terms With Cam Talbot On Contract Extension

New York, NY (December 19, 2014) - New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Cam Talbot on a contract extension.

Talbot, 27, has appeared in seven games with the Rangers this season, posting a 2-3-1 record, along with a 2.34 GAA, a .921 SV%, and two shutouts. He is tied for ninth in the NHL in shutouts in 2014-15, and he is the only NHL goaltender with six or fewer starts to post two shutouts this season. Talbot recorded shutouts in back-to-back starts on November 19 vs. Philadelphia and November 28 at Philadelphia, and he has posted the fourth-longest shutout streak in the NHL this season (159:48 from November 8 at Toronto to December 6 at Detroit).

In 28 career NHL appearances over two seasons, both with the Rangers, Talbot has posted a 14-9-2 record, along with a 1.80 GAA, a .936 SV%, and five shutouts. He is one of two goaltenders in Rangers history to post at least five shutouts in his first 24 career NHL starts (along with Lorne Chabot), and he is one of three Rangers goalies to register at least five shutouts in his first 24 starts with the franchise (along with Chabot and John Ross Roach).

During the 2013-14 season, the 6-3, 195-pounder led all first-year goalies (minimum 15 appearances) in GAA (1.64) and SV% (.941), ranked third in shutouts (three), and tied for fourth in wins (12). Talbot became the first Rangers goalie to allow two goals or fewer in each of his first seven career NHL starts, and he was the first NHL goalie to do so since the Bruins' Frank Brimsek in 1938-39.

The Caledonia, Ontario native was originally signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on March 30, 2010.
