Badger Licensing LLC (Badger) today announced that it was awarded a contract by Proper Year Petrochemical (Yangzhou) Co., Ltd. (PYPC) to provide its proprietary technology and process design services for a 60,000 metric tons per annum bisphenol A (BPA) plant in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, People's Republic of China. The new BPA plant, which is scheduled for startup in 2013, will be integrated with PYPC's cumene and phenol plants currently being constructed at the site and planned for startup in early 2012.

This facility will be the second cumene/phenol/BPA train owned and operated by an affiliate of Kingboard Chemical Holdings, LLC (Kingboard), the parent company of PYPC. The first train is located at Daya Bay, China and has been operating for several years. The cumene plants at both sites were also licensed by Badger.

"Badger's BPA technology provides high purity bisphenol A product suitable for optical grade polycarbonate and epoxy resin applications. The unique catalyst system provides exceptionally long catalyst life resulting in a low cost of production," said Mark Healey, president of Badger. "We believe this BPA plant will help Kingboard become a market leader in the Chinese phenolics industry. We look forward to expanding our relationship with Kingboard on this project and into the future."

Badger began marketing BPA technology in 2004 and has licensed nearly 1.2 million metric tons of capacity.
