Siam Cement PCL (SCC.TH), Thailand's largest industrial conglomerate by revenue, said Wednesday its board approved a plan to construct a lightweight concrete block plant in Indonesia at a cost of THB1.25 billion ($39.7 million).
The plant, to be located in Karawang, around 60 kilometers from the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta, is expected to begin commercial operations in early 2014 with an annual production capacity of 6 million square meters, the company said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
"During the past several years, demand for lightweight concrete blocks in Indonesia has grown at approximately 20% (per year), and this trend is expected to continue over the next five years," the company said.
