The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV) today published its annual Community Giving Report, detailing the company’s 2016 charitable contributions and community support. Travelers and the Travelers Foundation invested more than $23 million throughout the year to improve academic and career success for underrepresented students, create and maintain stable neighborhoods and enrich lives through arts and culture.

“Our dedication to being a strong corporate citizen and improving the communities where we live and work touches every part of our organization,” said Marlene Ibsen, Vice President of Community Relations at Travelers and CEO and President of the Travelers Foundation. “We’re working to help our communities succeed, from company-sponsored programs like Travelers EDGE® to our passionate employees who logged nearly 118,000 hours of volunteer time in 2016.”

Highlights from this year’s report include:

  • The company’s signature education program, Travelers EDGE (Empowering Dreams for Graduation and Employment), which provided 152 students with direct financial support in 2016 to assist them in working toward bachelor’s degrees.
  • Travelers’ Small Business Risk Education program, which helps women and minority small business owners learn about risk management and qualify for microloans. In 2016, the program reached nearly 300 participants, and since starting in 2012, its partners have provided participants with nearly $1 million in small business loans and microloans.
  • The company’s work with Habitat for Humanity®. In 2016, Travelers employees committed about 8,400 hours to help build 55 homes.

“Travelers has become an irreplaceable partner, helping students in our Academies of Finance and Information Technology grow in the areas of work-based learning and college readiness,” said Danielle Rembert, Principal at National Academy Foundation School of Baltimore. “When asked about what drew them to Travelers EDGE, students will say, ‘It’s not about the scholarship, although it is a big help – it’s about the fact that Travelers seems to really care about what happens in our school and wants me to be successful.’”

Travelers has contributed more than $200 million in charitable contributions over the last decade.
