Ultimate Software (Nasdaq: ULTI), a leading provider of human capital management (HCM) solutions in the cloud, announced today it has been ranked #7 on Forbes magazine’s 2015 list of the “Most Innovative Growth Companies.” Companies are ranked by their Innovation Premium, the difference between their market capitalization and a net present value of cash flows from current businesses. Forbes’ method relies on investors’ ability to identify firms they expect to be innovative now and in the future. Other companies named on the list include Gartner, Xero, Kate Spade & Co., and Opko Health.

“For 25 years, our company has focused on delivering innovative, industry-leading HCM technology. Our focus on new ideas and continuous evolution permeates our culture to its core,” said Scott Scherr, president, founder, and CEO at Ultimate Software. “We are honored to have ranked so highly for the second consecutive year by Forbes magazine as a leader on this important list of innovative growth companies. We look forward to continuing in our commitment to focus on research and development alongside sound business results.”

Ultimate also extends congratulations to our customers that made the 2015 list of the Most Innovative Growth Companies, including, ISIS Pharmaceuticals, Seattle Genetics, Mednax, and Heico as well as Ultimate Software’s strategic alliance partner, NetSuite.

Forbes’ Innovation Premium calculation first projects a company’s income (cash flows, in this case) from existing businesses, plus anticipated growth from those businesses, and then looks at the net present value (NPV) of those cash flows. The NPV of cash flows from existing businesses is compared with a current market capitalization. Companies with a current market cap above the NPV of cash flows have an innovation premium built into their stock.
