DETROIT, July 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- WDIV-TV Local 4, Detroit's top-rated television station, announces a new hour-long news and talk program called "Live in the D" scheduled to debut on Aug. 12 at 11 a.m.

"Live in the D" will focus on local and national news and will explore the intersections of culture, entertainment and lifestyle, and how it affects life in Metro Detroit. It will have the elements of a daytime newscast with additional guest-driven conversations and feature a core of contributors.

The station named Local 4 News anchor and reporter Guy Gordon and Local 4 News anchor and Defender Karen Drew as co-hosts of its new daytime show.

"When we started conceiving this program, we didn't have to look far to find the right people to host this next step in our daytime line-up. We are thrilled to have Guy and Karen as the face of our new show," said Marla Drutz, vice-president and general manager of Local 4.

Gordon has been a staple of Detroit broadcast journalism for more than 24 years and an integral part of Local 4 since joining the station in 2004. Gordon has received numerous awards, including eight Emmys, an MAB award for investigative reporting, an NAB award for outstanding documentary, and several awards for coverage of breaking news.

Drew currently anchors Local 4 News at Noon and is part of the Local 4 Defenders investigative unit. She is a multiple Emmy award winning journalist who has made her mark in the city of Detroit by uncovering government waste, busting a million dollar lottery winner on welfare, exposing a local school official drinking and driving a school-issued vehicle, revealing a con artist scheme to scam people out of their money on adoption deals and uncovering crime trends in local neighborhoods.

Local 4 News Director Kim Voet states, "Guy and Karen have the rare ability to cover hard news with journalistic expertise while being engaging, relatable and fun to watch."

Local 4 News at Noon will air exclusively on Detroit's number one local media website ClickOnDetroit.com and will also be anchored by Gordon and Drew.

"Our expanded news coverage gives us the opportunity to cover more of the stories that affect our viewers and our community as a whole," said Voet.
