The Western Union® Company (NYSE: WU), a leader in global payment services, and the Angola Post Office, provider of postal and financial services in Angola, today announced the signing of an agreement to provide - for the first time - Western Union money transfer services to consumers in Angola.

According to a study by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), more than 80 percent of post offices in Sub-Saharan Africa are located outside the three largest cities in each country, where 82.5 per cent of the population is concentrated -providing unique outreach to unbanked citizens and migrants.

Empresa Nacional de Correios e Telégrafos de Angola, operating as Correios de Angola (CA), is the government-owned company responsible for postal service in Angola, founded in 1980.

The Angola Post Office is a centennial institution with a long history and a remarkable presence with the population and institutions it has served. The company is a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), a UN organization that groups the postal services of 190 countries and autonomous regions, and is part of the EMS cooperative.

The National Post and Telegraph Company of Angola – the Angola Post Office – was created in 1980. Through Decrees 16/80 and 17/80 of the Council of Ministers it became known as the National Post and Telegraph Company of Angola – UEE.
