Nuclear power plant monitor teams, rapid response units and environmental agencies requiring remote radiation detection and identification can now turn to two new, high-precision spectroscopy instruments that offer multiple telemetry options.

The Thermo Scientific RadHalo rapid deployment probe (RDP) and fixed monitor (FM), the first products in a new line of radiation identification area monitors, offer the industry's first hands-free technology to monitor dose rate and identify radiation on location or from miles away via five different reachback options. The RadHalo RDP and the RadHalo FM are designed to deliver high sensitivity and accuracy across a wide range of low to extremely high radiation dose rate levels. The instruments also feature a rugged design for uninterrupted usage in various environments, including certain extreme weather conditions.

The RadHalo line introduces new features valuable for nuclear power personnel who monitor power plant boundaries for radiation leaks or measurement during or following an accident. Deployed as fixed-area (permanent) or mobile (temporary) radiation monitoring devices, RadHalo instruments are designed to provide high-sensitivity measurements, real-time data collection and remote data reachback options to assist in quick action planning and identification of safe evacuation routes.

  • A high-capacity, wide temperature range 72-hour battery so that the instrument can be deployed and operated for longer shifts;
  • An intuitive, modular design that enables customization through a portfolio of accessories, including solar panels, radio extenders, tripods and mounts; and
  • A large spectroscopic gamma detector, dual high-dose rate range gamma detectors and optional He3-free neutron detector to provide advanced radiological capability in many situations.
