NEW YORK, Oct. 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Deal, TheStreet's (NASDAQ:TST) institutional business, today announced that Senior Writer, Amanda Levin, has won a prestigious Front Page Award from The Newswomen's Club of New York in the online spot news category for her story, "Unsolicited bid puts Cleco on the block." The Front Page Awards honor journalistic excellence by newswomen in newspapers, television, wire services, photography, online, magazines and radio.

Levin's story broke news in June that Louisiana power utility Cleco Corp. had received an unsolicited bid and that in response their board voted to launch a sale process. After Levin's article was published, Cleco issued a press release confirming that it had received indications of interest with respect to a strategic transaction. Levin's article helped bring this critical information to light for shareholders.

"Companies are not required to disclose any M&A activity they might be engaging in until the deal actually happens, which isn't in the best interest of the public. Amanda's scoop broke this news, empowering our audience - and ultimately Cleco's shareholders - to get a better understanding of the potential deal," remarked Jeffrey Kanige, Editor in Chief of The Deal. "Our team is thrilled and honored to have Amanda Levin recognized by the Newswomen's Club of New York for her hard work covering the utilities beat."

The 2014 Front Page Awards will be presented at a black tie gala on Thursday, November 13 at the Down Town Association in Manhattan.
