TORONTO -Thomson Reuters today announced the winners of the 2016 Thomson Reuters Analyst Awards for Canada. This is the fourteenth year that the awards have been presented to the top ranking stock analysts and brokerage firms in Canada.

The Awards, based on objective Thomson Reuters StarMine sell-side securities analysts' ratings, measure the performance of analysts against the industry excess returns of their buy/sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. The 2016 awards recognise the sell-side securities analysts who have shown outstanding performance as either Stock Pickers during the 2015 calendar year, and/or Earnings Estimators during the fiscal period reported between April 1, 2015 and March 31, 2016.

Raj Shah, the head of StarMine sell-side research awards at Thomson Reuters, said, 'Institutional investors recognize that stock picking and estimates accuracy are among the most coveted intelligence provided by them. The winning analysts were those that sifted deep into their industries and distilled more research insights. By providing truly differentiated research and extracting outsized returns from their coverage, these analysts stood out in the eyes of the investor community for their outstanding performance. Congratulations to all of this year's ranked analysts.'

Analysts are awarded prizes in three main categories: stock recommendation performance relative to specific industry benchmarks ('Stock Pickers'), accuracy in forecasting earnings as compared with peers ('Earnings Estimators') and brokerage firms whose analysts win the most awards ('Most Award-Winning Brokers').
