Tieto Corporation         PRESS RELEASE         24 April 2013 at 09.00 am EET

Tieto has developed Tieto Classify, a product for classifying information and managing metadata, in response to the information management challenges stemming from the current flood of information. It is suitable for information management in both the private and public sectors. Tieto Classify offers classification and metadata service for all systems in a centralized fashion.

The flood of information from a number of different channels and the amount of information produced as a result of, for example, social media has skyrocketed. In an ICT architecture, Tieto Classify functions as a centralized service for information management and as a source of metadata. It increases the transparency of information handling processes and the efficiency of information usability and manageability over its entire life cycle, including production of information, processing and availability, storage, archiving and possible disposal.

"Traditionally, classification and metadata management has been done on a system-by-system basis, which has often meant the expected benefits have remained quite modest. More comprehensive classification and metadata management projects have been perceived as challenging because of the limited compatibility of technologies and the time required for integration," describes Sissi Kolbe, Tieto's enterprise content management and collaboration solutions development director.

"The trump card of Tieto Classify is its flexible data structure and how fast it can be deployed. In practice, so-called plug-in components enable rapid implementations, allowing the classification and metadata service to any type of applications on various platforms. Tieto Classify can also be deployed as a service, which means there is no need for initial investments in software and equipment," Kolbe continues.

Tieto Classify is part of the comprehensive information management solutions offered by Tieto. The solutions include case management and decision-making, document management and the production of structured documentation as well as electronic signature and archival solutions.

Tieto Classify is in conformance with the SÄHKE2 norms and has been granted a SÄHKE2 certificate. The National Archives Service of Finland has defined the SÄHKE2 standard, which guides public administration case and document management in electronic operating environments. It includes the framework conditions for the digitalization of handling processes for case and document information and for the reliable electronic long-term archival of information.

Tieto Classify is based on open source software solutions evaluated by Tieto. This means that customers do not need to invest in third party licences or commit to one supplier's products.
