NASHVILLE, Tenn., June 08, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SilverSneakers® by Tivity Health (NASDAQ:TVTY) announced today the national winner for the inaugural SilverSneakers Instructor of the Year award. Denver resident Terecita (Ti) Blair was selected for her commitment to helping SilverSneakers members reach their health and fitness goals.

After surviving a serious car accident, Blair began her road to recovery through exercise and strength training. Inspired by SilverSneakers, Blair became a certified SilverSneakers trainer to share her passion with others. Blair was nominated by SilverSneakers members, fitness location staff, family, friends and fellow instructors. They say she connects with her class participants on a personal level, acting as their devoted and caring cheerleader who helps improve their health through fitness.

“Terecita is vivacious, energizing and compassionate. She truly cares about her students. She makes the SilverSneakers classes fun! She explains why each exercise is good for us and works with the whole person, not just the physical. Ti is exceptional,” says Marlene Koehler, who nominated Blair for the award and attends Blair’s SilverSneakers class at Cook Park Recreation Center, part of Denver Parks and Recreation.

The SilverSneakers Instructor of the Year award honors an exemplary fitness instructor who has made a difference in the lives of SilverSneakers members through camaraderie, motivation, enthusiasm and fitness. The award recognizes the impact SilverSneakers instructors have on their community, helping members reach their health and fitness goals.

“We have tremendous admiration for our network of instructors who work directly with our members to transform their lives,” said Donato Tramuto, Tivity Health CEO. “In addition to helping members stay physically healthy and achieve their fitness goals, our instructors are instrumental in creating the tight-knit communities and friendships that are the hallmarks of the SilverSneakers program.”

SilverSneakers received more than 3,200 nominations for over 500 instructors from program members, family, friends and fitness location staff, and will recognize the top five nominees with class celebrations. The other four finalists include:

  • Donna Culley, Midlothian, Va.
Culley works diligently to make all her SilverSneakers class members feel like individuals. She works closely with each participant to support their needs and ability, providing exercise modifications to keep everyone engaged. Caring and kind, she is open to class feedback and works to make her classes safe and fun for all members – and as a result, Culley’s classes are always full! SilverSneakers members say Culley is an excellent instructor and makes everyone feel respected, valued and appreciated.

  • Deborah Walter, Hickory, Tenn.
Dynamic and personable, Walter encourages those who take her class to live a healthier lifestyle and is committed to improving their well-being. She encourages and educates members, explaining the purpose of each movement and how it affects the muscles and parts of the body. She offers a friendly, patient environment and makes exercise a fun challenge. Members share that Walter’s class is the highlight of their week, and they look forward to the shared camaraderie she creates.

  • Lynne Goodwin, Greensboro, N.C.
Goodwin has been a SilverSneakers instructor at the Bryan Family YMCA for more than 10 years and has built a strong community that has become her ‘Y’ family – both in and out of the gym. She can be found sitting with members after class enjoying a cup of coffee and some laughs, or hosting the holiday potluck for members at her house. Because of her dedication, her classes average 40 or more participants. SilverSneakers members appreciate Goodwin for always going above and beyond her instructor role, developing a strong rapport with her classes.

  • Jasmyn Ginn, Indianapolis, Ind.
New to the SilverSneakers family, Ginn has made a tremendous impact in a short time. Always putting the needs of others before her own, she checks in on members that miss a class and provides individualized attention during each class. Ginn is pleasant and a joy to be around; her patience makes her an excellent instructor, and she gives each class her all. Her members share that Ginn’s class has helped them improve their lives, whether that’s helping with balance, lowering blood pressure or improving back problems.
