TOHOKU ELECTRIC POWER CO., INC.
March 25, 2014
Electricity Supply & Demand Report for February 2014 1. Electricity demand (See Table 1)
Electric power sold in February totaled 7,386 GWh, which was 103.0% as compared with the same period of the previous year. This was because of a longer period of meter reading than the previous year and a post-quake reconstruction and a recovery in production in large industrial sector. It exceeded the results of the previous year for the first time in 3 months.
- Non-Specified Scale Demand (Excluding deregulated segment)
Due to a longer period of meter reading than the previous year and a post-quake reconstruction, power demand in the lighting (residential) sector was 106.1% as compared with the same period of the previous year, and which exceeded the result of the previous year for the first time in 3 months.
Non-specified scale demand in total was 105.4% of the same period of the previous year.
- Specified Scale Demand (Deregulated segment)
Due to a post-quake reconstruction, electric power sold for commercial use was 100.6% year-on-year. Overall power demand in the specified-scale sectors totaled 101.3% of the same period of the previous year.
In the industrial and other sectors, power demand mostly came from large-scale industrial customers, as described in the reference below.

- Large-scale industrial demand
Large-scale industrial demand in total was 101.5% year-on-year, due to a recovery in production.
Large-scale industrial demand exceeded the performance of the previous year for 5 consecutive months.
Electricity generated and purchased in February totaled 7,721 GWh, 100.4% as compared with the same period of the previous year. It exceeded the performance of the previous year for 2 consecutive months.
(Power generated by our own hydro power stations)
Due to a thaw resulting from high temperature in the first ten days of February, the flow rate was
102.4% during this period. Hydro power generation increased 120 GWh, year-on-year, to 474 GWh.
(Power generated by our own thermal power stations)
Since operation of power stations was different from that of the same period of the previous year, generated output totaled 5,880 GWh, an increase of 613 GWh from the same period of the previous year.
(Power generated by our own nuclear power stations)
All units of Onagawa nuclear power station and unit 1 of Higashidori nuclear power station have been shut down because of regular inspection, so there was no nuclear power generation.
(Power generated by our own renewable power stations)
Since the amount of vapor in geothermal power stations increased, generated output totaled 72GWh, an increase of 2 GWh, year-on-year.
(Power purchased)
Since operation of thermal power station of other companies was different from that of the same period of the previous year, total power purchased from others totaled 1,940 GWh, a decrease of 340 GWh from the same period of the previous year.
