TOHOKU ELECTRIC POWER CO., INC.

November 26, 2014

Electricity Supply & Demand Report for October 2014 1. Electricity demand (See Table 1)

Electric power sold in October totaled 5,854 GWh, which was 98.5% year-on-year. While there was a continuous post-quake reconstruction, our customers' power saving efforts and other factors decreased the sales, which fell below the results of the previous year for two consecutive months.
Sales by customer segment were as follows:
- Non-Specified Scale Demand (Excluding deregulated segment)
Even with a continuous post-quake reconstruction and a longer period of meter reading than the previous year, power demand in the lightning (residential) sector was 100.0% year-on-year due to our customers' power saving efforts and other factors.
Non-specified scale demand in total was 99.7% of the same period of the previous year.
- Specified Scale Demand (Deregulated segment)
Despite a continuing recovery trend in demand, electric power sold for commercial use was 95.8% year-on-year, which fell below the result of the previous year for two consecutive months due to our customers' power saving efforts and other factors. Overall power demand in the specified-scale sectors totaled 98.0% of the same period of the previous year.
In the industrial and other sectors, power demand mostly came from large-scale industrial customers, as described in the reference below.
[Reference]
- Large-scale industrial demand
While a post-quake reconstruction and a recovery of production continue, a low operating rate in some companies as well as an increase in the outputs of private generators lowered our large-scale industrial demand in total. As a result, it was 99.0% year-on-year, which fell below the performance of the previous year for three consecutive months.

2. Electricity supply (See Table 2)

Electricity generated and purchased in October totaled 6,452 GWh, 97.8% year-on-year, which fell below the performance of the previous year for three consecutive months.
(Power generated by our own hydro power stations)
Since a flow rate was down 18.8% year-on-year to 91.8%, hydro power generation output decreased to
429 GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 55 GWh.
(Power generated by our own thermal power stations)
Differences of thermal power stations' operations and other factors decreased our own thermal power generated output to 4,025 GWh, a year-on-year decrease of 967 GWh.
(Power generated by our own nuclear power stations)
All units of Onagawa nuclear power station and unit 1 of Higashidori nuclear power station have been shut down because of regular inspections. Therefore, there was no output from nuclear power stations.
(Power generated by our own renewable power stations)
Differences of geothermal power stations' operations and other factors increased our renewable generated output to 87 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 27 GWh.
(Power purchased)
Differences of thermal power stations' operation of other companies and other factors increased our power purchased from others to 2,268 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 644 GWh.
