Electricity Supply & Demand Report for March 2018
1. Electricity Demand (See Table 1)
Electric power sold in March decreased from a year ago to 6,432 GWh, which was 94.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. A shorter period of meter reading and a decrease in contract demand lowered total electricity demand.
The details are as follows:
- Lighting (Residential)
Due to a shorter period of meter reading, the power demand in the lighting (residential) sector was 94.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
- Power
Due to a decrease in contract demand and other factors, power demand in the power sector was 94.2% compared to the same period of the previous year.
(Table 1)
(Unit: GWh)
Segments | Actual GWh, Current month (A) | Actual GWh, Same month last year (B) | Year-to-year (%) (A/B) |
Lighting (Residential) Power | 2,391 4,041 | 2,519 4,292 | 94.9 94.2 |
Total of electricity sales | 6,432 | 6,811 | 94.4 |
2. Electricity Supply (See Table 2)
Our generated and purchased power in March totaled 6,713 GWh, which was 91.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
(Power generated by our own hydro power stations)
Our hydro power generated output totaled 891 GWh, a year-on-year increase of 298 GWh, owing to high water flow rate of 120.8%.
(Power generated by our own thermal power stations)
Due to differences in operational conditions and other factors, our thermal power generated output was up to 4,885 GWh, a decrease of 492 GWh from the previous year.
(Power generated by our own nuclear power stations)
All units of the Onagawa Nuclear Power Station and unit 1 of the Higashidori Nuclear Power Station have been shut down because of a regular inspection; therefore, there was no generated output from our nuclear power stations.
(Power generated by our own facilities using renewables and new energy)
Owing to differences in operational conditions in geothermal power stations and other factors, generated output of renewables and new energy was 78 GWh, a decrease of 3 GWh from the previous year.
(Power purchased from other companies)
Due to a differences in operational conditions in other companies' power stations, power purchased from other companies was 1,481 GWh, a decrease of 161 GWh from the previous year.
