Press Release (Jul 30,2015) TEPCO's CO2 Emissions Intensity in FY 2014

TEPCO's CO2 emissions intensity in FY 2014 was, based on the "Act on Promotion of Global Warming Countermeasures," 0.505kg-CO2/kWh (5 % down compared with the previous fiscal year) and this is the figure before making some adjustments required under the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy*1 to the CO2 emissions intensity values and reflecting purchased Kyoto mechanisms credit*2 in the values. The CO2 emissions intensity after the adjustment and the reflection was 0.496kg-CO2/kWh (5 % down compared with the previous fiscal year).
The CO2 emissions intensity after FY 2011 have been higher as electricity generated by thermal power plants has largely increased due to the shutdown of the nuclear power plants. Our CO2 emissions intensity in FY 2014, however, decreased comparted with the previous year because the percentage of electricity generated by oil-fired power plants in the whole electricity output decreased along with decline in the electricity sales volume.
TEPCO as a public utility of supplying electricity will continue to implement environment-friendly corporate activities as the whole group, and make a contribution to promoting preventive measures for global warming in accordance with Japan's energy and environment policies.

Changes of TEPCO's CO2 emissions intensity and CO2 emissions by FY

- The CO2 emissions intensity values in parentheses above are the values before making some adjustments required under the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy to the CO2 emissions intensity values and reflecting purchased Kyoto mechanisms credit in the values.

*1 Under the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy, all the electricity customers in principle pay the renewable energy surcharge proportional to the electricity they have consumed, and then the environmental values are supposed to be fairly distributed to them. In accordance with the policies concerning adjustment of CO2 emissions factors under the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy, CO2 emissions intensity values are modified.
*2 The Kyoto mechanisms credit in the first commitment period prescribed by the Kyoto Protocol that TEPCO purchased in FY2014 is reflected in the CO2 emissions intensity value.
