Oct. 03--LAWRENCE -- Police are seeking the public's help in identifying two men they say broke into a TD Bank early last month.
On Monday, Lawrence police posted several photos from the attempted burglary on Twitter and asked that anyone with information on the two men come forward.
Police Chief James Fitzpatrick said the break-in occurred about 1:15 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 4 at the TD Bank on South Broadway. The intruders attempted to access the cash inside an ATM but were unsuccessful, he said.
"It's a little bit dated," Fitzpatrick said of the crime, but detectives have hit "a dead end."
"We're just looking for information related to those photographs," he added.
The photos show two men inside the bank and a red work van they used to flee the scene. Fitzpatrick said one of the men may have a tattoo on his wrist, but the photos are too dark to tell for sure. He hopes someone may recognize the van, which is "a little bit more distinctive."
"We see, when they're gonna do a commercial break like these, they usually steal a caravan," Fitzpatrick said. "This looks like a work-type van that is not commonly stolen."
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Detective Sean O'Keefe at 978-794-5900, ext. 573.
