TOKYO-Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that Westinghouse Electric Company (WEC), a Toshiba Group company, has been awarded a long-term contract from Electricite de France (EDF) to provide nuclear fuel for nuclear reactors in France. This contract extends a current contract that expires at the end of 2014.

WEC will manufacture the fuel at its facilities in Västerås, Sweden, Springfields in the U.K. and at the European Fuel Group's Enusa plant, European fuel supply partners, in Juzbado, Spain. Associated field and operation services will be offered by WEC's French business operation.

WEC has delivered about 6,000 fuel assemblies to EDF's plants since 2003 and is an important supplier of fuel to the French nuclear fleet. WEC believes this order reflects EDF's high confidence in the quality, reliability and competitiveness of WEC fuel, plus the company's global experience and capabilities.

In fiscal year 2014, WEC won a series of major contracts for supply of nuclear fuel around the world. Following a contract with the Energoatom of Ukraine for the South Ukraine nuclear power plant (Russian-designed VVER) in April, WEC signed contracts with Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel AB of Sweden for Forsmark nuclear power plant (boiling water reactor (BWR)) and Ringhals nuclear power plant (pressurized water reactor (PWR)) in May, OKG AB of Sweden for Oskarshamn plants (BWR) in August, Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) of Finland for Olkiluoto nuclear power plant (BWR) in November, and with several US power utilities over the course of the year. The total contracted amount is over 200-billion Japanese yen (approx. US$1.8-billion).

WEC is a single-source global nuclear fuel provider for PWR, BWR, Russian-designed VVER reactors and advanced gas-cooled reactors (AGR). Taking full advantages of its capabilities in these product lines and its ability to reduce grid-to-rod fretting, WEC is expanding the nuclear fuel business worldwide.

WEC will continue to lead nuclear power industry by winning new orders of AP1000, WEC's most advanced PWR, worldwide and by developing fuel supply and service businesses for plants in operation.
