PARIS--French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault Tuesday confirmed the government's commitment to reduce France's reliance on nuclear power for electricity production.
Mr. Ayrault was making his first speech to the French national assembly after the election of a socialist majority following Francois Hollande's win in the vote for president.
"We will instigate a massive program to save energy and an ambitious plan for the development of renewable energies. The share of nuclear in electricity production will fall from 75% to 50% by 2025," he said.
