Stockholm, Sweden - September 12th, 2012 - Transmode, a global supplier of packet optical networking solutions, today announced that T-Mobile Austria has chosen Transmode's optical solutions to increase the capacity on its Austria-wide fiber network, to meet the growing needs of its mobile services customers.

T-Mobile Austria recently signed a Deed of Adherence with Transmode, which enables T-Mobile Austria to take advantage of the frame agreement previously agreed between Transmode and Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile Austria's parent company. After considering a range of solutions, T-Mobile Austria chose Transmode's TG-Series solution on the basis of its advantageous technical performance and rapid projected return on investment.

T-Mobile Austria required the network expansion offered by Transmode's TG-Series WDM solution to increase capacity on its existing fiber network to support the growth in traffic within their mobile networks across the whole country. This is a passive WDM solution, which is effectively an overlay that will enable greater capacity on T-Mobile Austria's existing fiber network.

Manfred Reiff, Senior Manager Multilayer Transmission Planning at T-Mobile Austria, commented, "We were looking for a cost efficient and flexible solution to combine 10G and STM-16 services on the same infrastructure. We needed the new system to operate in parallel with the existing SDH network and our new IP platform. Transmode's solution was a well proven technology in our parent company and T-Mobile Austria is happy to be deploying it as well."

T-Mobile Austria says it has seen a linear increase in traffic of 100% in the past few years, with the main traffic generators being mobile data cards used for ADSL substitution, smart phones and tablets. Social media such as Youtube and Facebook are the leading applications driving bandwidth growth. T-Mobile is also now offering a new music-streaming platform called Deezer and the company is expecting a lot of bandwidth growth from this product as well.

Björn Andersson, Transmode's Vice President Sales commented, "We are delighted to be announcing T-Mobile Austria as a new Transmode customer. This important contract follows the productive agreement between Transmode and Deutsche Telekom. We look forward to supporting T-Mobile Austria in its ambitions to improve user experience, drive down network costs and offer new service capabilities."
