On October 27, 2014 Mikhail Margelov was appointed Vice President of Transneft, JSC. In the Company he will be responsible for supervision of the foreign economic activity and public relations.

Mikhail Margelov was born on December 22, 1964 in Moscow.

In 1986 he graduated from the History and Philology Faculty of the Institute of Asian and African Countries at the Lomonosov Moscow State University as a historian-orientalist and researcher-translator.

He worked as a lecturer at the Higher School of KGB USSR. Later on, he started working as a senior editor at the Arabic editorial office of ITAR-TASS.

During his working career, he held executive positions at a communication and advertising agency, worked as head of the RF Presidential Department for Public Relations, at the RF State Customs Committee, at the Russian Information Agency - RIA Novosti, holding an office of Deputy Chairman of the RIA Novosti Managing Board, and as head of the Russian Information Center (Rosinformtsentr) at the Government of the Russian Federation.

On December 20, 2000 Mikhail Margelov became a member of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation - a representative of the executive authority of the Pskov Region.

On November 14, 2001, he was elected the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation.

In January 2003, Mr. Margelov was appointed Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) representing Russia.

He was appointed the RF President's envoy for Sudan and then the RF President's envoy for cooperation with countries of Africa.

Following his termination as a member of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, on September 25, 2014 he left his office of the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation.

He is a member of the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy (CFDP) and the Russian Council for International Affairs (RCIA).

He has a number of state and departmental awards. Candidate of Political Sciences. He is married and has two sons.
