Transneft' : Chernomortransneft holds a comprehensive emergency response drill at Novovelichkovskaya PS

A successful comprehensive emergency response drill (CERD) dedicated to Fault removal with oil spill reaching the water surface, spill localization and mitigation at the underwater crossing over the river Ponura of the oil trunk pipeline (OTP) Tikhoretsk-Novorossiysk-1 took place at the oil pump station (PS) Novovelichkovskaya, Kransodar ROTPD, Chernomortransneft.

Several scenarios of potential emergencies were drilled. Overall 76 personnel participated in the emergency response drill, with 16 specialized vehicles, 3 floating crafts and 6 oil recovery vessels engaged; also 1,060 meters of various oil-spill booms were used.

According to the scenario, the participants had to respond to a fake accident related to unsealing of the main line of the underwater crossing over the river Ponura of the oil trunk pipeline (OTP) Tikhoretsk-Novorossiysk-1 as well as to the emergencies at the technological equipment of Novovelichkovskaya PS.

The personnel of Line Emergency Operation Division (LEOD) #1, #2, Central Maintenance Division (CMD) and maintenance personnel of Novovelichkovskaya PS were mobilized to respond to simulated accidents. Within the set time, the employees of maintenance and emergency divisions carried out a full range of CERD works.

Overall four basic scenario injects were trained during the drill along the lines of work done by four sections: operation, chief power engineer, chief mechanics officer, automatic process control systems.

The goal of comprehensive emergency response drills is keeping the instant readiness of crews, vehicles and facilities for responding to accidents, emergencies and fails at OTP facilities and to their consequences; rescuing human lives and protecting the health of personnel as well as training of the Company's employees in expeditious response measures.

As estimated by the CERD Commission, all emergency divisions engaged in the drill were adequate to the tasks set, demonstrating a high level of interaction, the ability to properly and timely use specialized vehicles and equipment for localization and mitigation of emergencies and their consequences.
