TRANSURBAN ANNOUNCED AS GENDER EQUALITY EMPLOYER OF CHOICE
Transurban has received a Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) citation for 2014 which recognises employers of choice for gender equality.
WGEA Director Helen Conway said holders of this year's citation could be distinguished by their commitment to
"doing" rather than simply "talking".
"They are driving the lasting cultural and organisational change that is essential for any organisation committed to maximising the potential of women and men," she said.
Transurban is focused on achieving gender diversity and equality, and implements targeted programs across the business that embed diversity principles in recruitment processes, ensure pay equity, promote flexible working arrangements, raise awareness about gender bias, and support female managers and executives.
Transurban Chief Executive Officer Scott Charlton said he was proud to receive the citation that recognised our quality programs and the dedication of the team who worked to deliver them.
"Our goal is to create a high performance culture based on collaboration and an open environment, and we know that a diverse workforce is vital to achieving this," Mr Charlton said.
"We have set clear objectives and strategies to achieve gender equality across all levels of our business. We have made significant progress and currently have a gender mix of 44% female, 56% male in our Executive Committee, and 40% female, 60% male in our senior management team, but we have more work to do," he said.
"We continuously look for ways to promote gender equality and create a workplace where people are recognised for their merits. While we use targets, policies and programs to measure success this is not the whole story.
"We also work hard to ensure everyone, regardless of gender, can maximise their contribution in the workplace in
a genuine way. It's the way we do business, it produces the best results, and it's everyone's responsibility."
WGEA highlighted Transurban's FEET (Females Encouraged in Engineering and Technology) Mentoring Program as an example of gender equality leadership. Through the program, Transurban engages with female engineering and technology students - employment areas which traditionally have low female representation - and offers a work placement and mentor partner to introduce them to potential career paths and opportunities.
WGEA also acknowledged the steps Transurban had taken to embed gender equality principles into its recruitment policy and practices.
Reflecting the more rigorous criteria required this year, 76 organisations throughout Australia received the citation
- down from 125 in 2013.
