The Travelers Institute, the public policy division of The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYSE: TRV), will host its sixth Consumer Insurance Education symposium today at Travelers’ St. Paul offices. The event will provide community members with information that can help improve their understanding about insurance. The Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce and Insurance Producers Network will co-host the event.

“Choosing the right home, auto and other personal insurance policies can be a complex process, and it’s important that individuals have information that would be helpful to make sound decisions about their insurance,” said Joan Woodward, President of the Travelers Institute and Executive Vice President of Public Policy at Travelers. “We are pleased to work with our local partner organizations to help consumers in the Twin Cities understand how property and casualty insurance can help them protect what’s most important.”

Dr. Charlie Klauer, Research Scientist and Leader of the Teen Risk and Injury Prevention Group at Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, will deliver a keynote address to discuss the results of new research into teenage driving risks.

The event also will include a panel discussion about different types of insurance coverage and steps that individuals can take to help mitigate or prevent damage from unexpected events. In addition to Woodward, panelists will include Matt Amack, President and CEO, Insurance Producers Network; Chad Banken, Senior Mortgage Consultant, Mortgages Unlimited and a member of the MortgageRevolution.com team; Daniel Lee, Claim Manager, Travelers; and Matt Sahar, Owner/Broker, Oak Tree Realty.

The Consumer Insurance Education symposia series, launched in 2013, is a national tour that is part of a broader company-wide consumer education program that leverages Travelers’ 160-year risk management expertise.
