With Remembrance Day fast approaching Travis Perkins, the UK's largest supplier of building materials to the trade, construction and home improvement markets is taking time to reaffirm its commitment to the UK's Armed Forces.

The company's commitment to supporting the UK's Armed Forces and service leavers was highlighted this year when the company became the 1,500th organisation in the UK to sign the Armed Forces Covenant. With this Travis Perkins committed to ensuring those who serve or have served our country are better supported.

Speaking back in March 2017 when the Covenant was signed, Travis Perkins CEO, John Carter said: 'We are delighted to not only be here to celebrate the Group's commitment and ongoing support of the Armed Forces in our signing of the Armed Forces Covenant, but incredibly proud and honoured to be recognised along with our community of ex forces and serving colleagues, as the 1500th organisation to do so.'

Since the start of 2017, Travis Perkins have recruited approximately 275 service leavers and more recently Travis Perkins had the great honour of being recognised for their work supporting the Armed Forces with a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Silver award. The award was given to the company in recognition of the effort it is making to recruit and develop armed forces personnel.

Speaking back in August when the award was announced, Carol Kavanagh, Group HR Director at Travis Perkins plc, commented, 'We're incredibly proud to have been awarded ERS Silver. We have long recognised the valuable skills, professionalism and dedication that service leavers can bring to our business and we're committed to showing our ongoing support for the defence community'.

Travis Perkins is always looking to show support for the work the Armed Forces do. For Armed Forces week in June 2017, Travis Perkins hosted a UK wide 'Brew Up' across its business. In partnership with the UK military charity, SSAFA, employees across the UK were encouraged to have a communal 'brew' to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces.

Behind these milestones and activities, Travis Perkins has an established recruitment programme, which consists of company open days, online CV clinics and a strong relationship with the Ministry of Defence's Careers Transition Partnership (CTP) who help place service leavers into roles. Travis Perkins have successfully attended 9 CTP recruitment fairs this year spanning the length and breadth of the country. The company also offers Reservists flexibility to complete military training, including the option to take additional leave to complete training.

Ahead of Remembrance Day it is taking time to recognise all the work the Armed Forces do, while celebrating the skills and experience that former members of the Armed Forces bring to the business.
