As the family travel season ramps up roomier modes of transportation grow more appealing – and nothing beats the pure functionality of a minivan in this area. As Chrysler’s new Pacifica ups the ante in the segment with innovative features to make it an even better option for those seeking parent-friendly features, consumers can find excellent savings this month across the minivan segment, according to TrueCar, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRUE).

“To say that minivans have been the ‘Rodney Dangerfield’ segment of the auto market for many years, in terms of not getting the respect they deserve, is an understatement,” said Eric Lyman, TrueCar’s vice president of industry insights. “With the arrival of Chrysler’s clever new Pacifica, resilient demand for Toyota’s Sienna and the Honda Odyssey, and unmatched utility in terms of hauling kids and cargo it’s time to give minivans a fresh look.”

Savings worth noting in the segment include as much as $6,320, or 21%, off MSRP for a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT Plus minivan. The Grand Caravan’s sister model, the 2016 Town & Country, currently can see savings worth as much as $5,315, or 16.2%, off MSRP this month.

The Pacifica, on sale as a 2017 model, is available currently with a no-interest finance offer for 36 months and up to $1,500 in customer cash, according to Chrysler. Additionally, it’s available for lease at $269 per month for 36 months, with $2,999 down.

Toyota’s Sienna, the top-selling minivan in the U.S. this year through May, currently is available with a no-interest loan offer for 60 months, while Honda is promoting a 0.9%, 60-month loan offer for its rival Odyssey. Kia offers even more generous terms for the Sedona, promoting a 66-month, no-interest offer for its minivan.

“SUVs and crossovers have overshadowed minivans for a long time, but there’s definitely some new appeal for a lot of car buyers,” said Cari Crane, TrueCar’s senior industry analyst. “This class of vehicle is hard to beat for family road trips, but attractive prices and reasonably good fuel economy also make them an excellent choice.”

Published monthly, the “TrueSavings” report analyzes recent transaction prices and identifies opportunities for consumer savings.
