* The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX fell 10.99 points, or 0.07 percent, to 16,133.80.

* The biggest contributor to the TSX loss was Royal Bank of Canada which fell 0.6 percent, or 6.56 index points. Energy was the top sector drag, weighing by 23.18 points.

* Leading the index were Alamos Gold Inc , up 5 percent, Eldorado Gold Corp , up 5 percent, and ECN Capital Corp , higher by 4.1 percent.

* Lagging shares were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd , down 4.6 percent, Teck Resources Ltd, down 4.1 percent, and Lundin Mining Corp, lower by 4 percent.

* On the TSX 137 issues advanced and 106 declined as a 1.3-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 7 new highs and 1 new lows, with total volume of 194.6 million shares.

* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc , Baytex Energy Corp  and Canopy Growth Corp.

* West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 0.61 percent, or $0.44, to $71.76 a barrel. Brent crude  rose 0.13 percent, or $0.10, to $79.67 [O/R]

* The TSX is off 0.5 percent for the year.
