Nuclear power plants, thermal and even hydropower plants use super-power turbines to generate electricity. And here in Kharkiv they are manufactured. And on such scopes that 'Turboatom' is rightly considered one of the largest turbine-constructing enterprises in the world.

On area of 50 hectares, work is in full swing in literal sense: melted steel reaches temperature of 1600 degrees, cast-iron - 1400, cranes easily lift 200 tons into the air. Everything works smoothly, like an orchestra.

Before citizens of Kharkiv always put ambitious plans. Large-scale construction began in 1929 and, according to Soviet tradition, was completed in five years. Money was not spared - 30 million rubles. However, such investments were well-calculated, because subsequently plant manufactured products worth 40 million just in 1 year.

Production only growing, and for the first 5 years so many turbines were designed in workshops, that their capacity exceeded total capacity of all power plants of pre-revolutionary Russia.

In the future, rates only grew. In 1965, Kharkiv citizens first in the world introduced 500 MW steam turbine, and in 1982 - doubled figure.

For its history, and this is more than 80 years, products of 'Turboatom' traveled to 45 countries around the world. This is not only Europe, but also Asia and Africa. However, to manufacture - it's not all tasks, it is necessary to deliver. Only turbine runner can weigh about 60 tons, and head cover to it is even more than 30. Turbines are laid out in parts and transported by road trains. But in October 2012, they took advantage of engineering miracle of Ukraine - 'Mriya' plane, which, for one flight, delivered turbine weighing 125 tons to Dushanbe.

Now Ukrainian engines are working in Germany, Finland, Hungary, Bulgaria and India, and if we take all the nuclear power plants of the planet, each 8 is equipped with Ukrainian turbines. According to this indicator, 'Turboatom' is the fourth in the world.
