Hybride Technologies, the Ubisoft-owned visual effects studio that helped create the look of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is teaming up with a special-effects giant. To better continue its high-profile work in film, the studio announced a strategic alliance with Industrial Light & Magic, the George Lucas-founded visual-effects house that has worked on… well, most of the blockbusters you've seen in recent decades, with a long list of credits that include Jurassic Park, Harry Potter, and Marvel's Avengers, in addition to the Star Wars and Indiana Jones sagas.

'Over these few years, we've developed a great connection with the team at ILM, and it's exactly for that reason that they've decided to entrust Hybride as their partner in Quebec,' says Pierre Raymond, president and head of operations at Hybride. 'This alliance is a huge vote of confidence that will allow us to consolidate our position in the VFX industry and inevitably strengthen our recruitment capacity.'

The alliance represents a big move for Hybride, which began in 1991 as Quebec's first visual-effects company, and whose first Ubisoft project was Assassin's Creed Lineage, the YouTube-only prequel to Assassin's Creed II.

'In our search to collaborate with the industry's best talent, Hybride has consistently risen to the top, proving time and again their ability to execute visual effects work for us at the highest level,' says ILM Executive in Charge, Global Studio Gretchen Libby. 'ILM places a high value on innovation, creativity and technological expertise, as does Hybride. Today's announcement is the result of this shared vision.'
