Ultralife Batteries, Inc. (NASDAQ: ULBI) announced today the election of Patricia (Tosh) Barron as chair of the board of directors. Ms. Barron has been on the Ultralife board for seven years. She replaces Ranjit C. Singh, who has served as chairman of the board since December 2001. Mr. Singh remains a director of the company. Ms. Barron was unanimously elected as chair by the board following the company's annual meeting last week. In addition, the nomination of Bradford T. Whitmore as a director of the board was approved by the company's shareholders at the annual meeting, bringing the total number of board seats to eight.

?During my tenure as chairman of the board, Ultralife has evolved from a lithium battery company to a diversified high-energy power solutions and communications accessories company,? said Ranjit Singh, Ultralife director. ?It has been my pleasure to serve as chairman as the company has evolved over the past six years and I am confident that under Tosh's leadership, Ultralife will continue to advance its strategy and strengthen its market position.?

?I am delighted to assume the chair of Ultralife and I look forward to guiding the board in helping management as it strengthens the company's position as the leader in integrated power and communications systems,? said Patricia C. Barron, chair of Utralife's board of directors.

Ms. Barron, 64, who is currently retired, has been a director of the company since September 2000. Ms. Barron serves as a director of Quaker Chemical Corporation, Teleflex Incorporated and United Services Automobile Association, an insurance mutual corporation. She also serves on a number of non-profit organizations, with a focus on education and health. Ms. Barron had a 28-year career in business. She was an Associate at McKinsey and Company and then moved to Xerox Corporation where she became a corporate officer and held the positions of Vice President of Business Operation Support, President of Engineering Systems and President of Office Document Products. Most recently she has been a Clinical Associate Professor at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business of New York University, where she focused on issues of corporate governance and leadership.

John D. Kavazanjian, Ultralife's president and chief executive officer, said, ?I have always been impressed by Tosh's business acumen and strategic thinking. Likewise, I have known Brad for several years, since Grace Brothers participated in a private placement that we completed in 2001 and I welcome him to the board. As an Ultralife shareholder, Brad brings a unique perspective to the deliberations about the company's strategic initiatives and his investment experience will help us continue to make smart strategic decisions.?

?I am delighted to join Ultralife's board of directors,? said Bradford T. Whitmore, Ultralife director. ?My goal, as a director, is to help propel the company's growth as it continues to leverage its broad product portfolio, global presence and growing reputation for engineering skill ? in short to work with management to build shareholder value.?

Within the past five years, Mr. Whitmore has served as a director of Sunterra Corp. and Ladish Co. as well as several non-public companies and not-for-profit organizations.
