The paintings on display are from the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Russia. The Gallery, dubbed 'Home of The Wanderers', prides the world's most important complete collection of this school of painting. The public will see that the 68 oil paintings illustrate perfectly the artistic achievements of The Wanderers from the 19th to early 20th century. The exhibition brought to Shanghai at the great support of RUSAL is yet another major initiative of the Company in promoting art and cultural exchange and the ever closer ties between China and Russia.

The exhibition mainly features works of Peredvizhniki (the Wanderers) from Russia. 'The Wanderers' were one of the most forward-minded art groups in Russia in the late 19th and early 20th century. Young, daring, talented and independent, they formed a new realist art form depicting life of entire nation. The exhibition in the Shanghai museum has six main sections namely 'Academy of Arts and its Tradition', 'The Wanderers and Their Predecessors', 'Landscape Paintings of the Wanderers', 'Portrait Paintings of the Wanderers', 'Genre Paintings and Historical Tableaus of the Wanderers' and 'The Younger Generation of the Wanderers', letting the public appreciate the historical value and artistic supremacy of the Wanderers' works.

Commenting on the opening of the exhibition, Ms Vera Kurochkina. Director of Communications at RUSAL, said, 'We are very excited to be showing in Shanghai the most beautiful cultural heritage of Russia, further helping to bring two great nations closer together. Art is a form of communication of the soul. The painters among The Wanderers care about, and depict in their works of those who are representative of the history and culture of Russia. Their paintings touch spectators' hearts. We think that is the best way to strengthen our mutual understanding and friendship between both countries and peoples.

'China and Russia are neighbours, sharing common characteristics and attributes in the past and today. As a leading aluminium producer in the world, RUSAL sees the China market as a strategically important region, and has over the years built a strong foothold in China. Our joint projects with Chinese business partners have been progressing in strong and steady strides. On this foundation, we hope to do more for the Chinese market and as such, are happy to be able to assist in bringing an art exhibition of such a grand scale to China, an event helpful to our continuous advance in the country.'

For years, RUSAL has strived to promote the aluminium industries of China and Russia, as well as economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries. It has been close to 20 years since RUSAL set up its first office in China in 2000. The Group boasts a strong cooperative relationship with Chalco, Shenzhen North Investments and Hebei Joy Sense Cable. It has also shared its views on the development of the industry in China and the region as well as economic development at high level forums. At the beginning of the year, RUSAL chose to issue panda bonds on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE), making it the first 'Belt and Road' state corporation to issue panda bonds on SSE. The opening of 'The Wanderers - Masterpieces from the State Tretyakov Gallery' co-organised by RUSAL in Shanghai marks the beginning of a new mode of cooperation between RUSAL and the China market, which is going to add amazing 'colours' to the 'One Belt One Road' aspiration.
