UPS (NYSE: UPS) received its Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) certification at a ceremony hosted by the Customs Department of Thailand, thus strengthening UPS's partnership with the Thai Customs authorities, as well as supporting international trade by enhancing supply chain security and improving business processes.

"As an enabler of commerce, UPS' continuous enhancement of its network and capabilities ensures that our customers in Thailand can operate more efficiently in a globalised economy," said Edmund Lo, Managing Director of UPS Thailand. "With this certification, UPS is able to streamline our daily operations while continuing to maintain a high standard of reliable service; resulting in an enhanced experience for our customers."

The AEO programme is part of the Customs Department of Thailand's endeavour to conform to the World Customs Organisation (WCO)'s framework of Standard to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (SAFE). To facilitate customs clearance and maintain a high level of safety and security, the Thai Customs department introduced certification and operating standards, conditions and privileges for AEOs in the country.

"The AEO certification recognises UPS's commitment to international supply chain security and safety, which is important as we operate in a region where there is a spectrum of customs complexities and stages of infrastructure maturity," said James Wu, Vice President for Strategy and Customs Brokerage, UPS Asia. "In Asia, we have been awarded AEO certifications in Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Singapore; and we are looking to further enhance  our cross-border capabilities in Asia moving forward."
