UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) today announced that Peter G. Jacoby is joining the company as senior vice president, Government Affairs.

Peter G. Jacoby will be responsible for leading federal and state advocacy and political efforts in support of the enterprise’s work to improve access to higher-quality health care while reducing its costs. In his new position, Peter G. Jacoby will report to Cory Alexander, executive vice president, External Affairs for UnitedHealth Group.

Peter G. Jacoby comes to UnitedHealth Group from AT&T Inc., where he has been a senior leader in government affairs for 15 years, overseeing significant policy issues at the federal and state levels. From 1995 to 1998, he served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Legislative Counsel in the White House.

Previously, Peter G. Jacoby held positions at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer Feld LLP and as staff in the U.S. Congress. He obtained his law degree from George Mason University School of Law and his bachelor of arts from Lafayette College in Pennsylvania.
