Rhode Island small-business owners will soon be able to offer their employees more health plan benefit options to meet their individual health and financial needs.

UnitedHealthcare’s Multi-Choice will enable employers to select multiple plan options from 18 different medical plan designs, each with different coverage levels, deductibles and premiums. Employers define their level of financial contribution and give employees the choice to pick the plan that best meets their unique needs. Plan options include traditional benefit designs with various premium, deductible and coinsurance levels; consumer-driven designs paired with a health savings account (HSA); and health plans that add specialty benefits, including dental, life, disability and vision coverage.

Multi-Choice will be available June 1 to Rhode Island businesses with up to 100 employees.

“Many small businesses want to continue offering health benefits to their employees, and with UnitedHealthcare’s Multi-Choice exchange plan, they no longer need to feel limited in the benefit options they can offer to address their employees’ unique needs,” said Stephen Farrell, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of New England. “UnitedHealthcare will continue to develop plans to provide Rhode Island employers and their staffs with the broadest choices.”

Multi-Choice plan participants will have access to UnitedHealthcare’s wellness and disease management programs, 24/7 access to OptumHealth’s NurseLineSM, and a national network of more than 800,000 physicians and other care providers and 6,000 hospitals, including 13 hospitals and more than 3,800 physicians and other care providers in Rhode Island.

Plan participants also will have access to UnitedHealthcare’s consumer-friendly online tools such as myHealthcare Cost Estimator and myClaims Manager that provide plan customers the information they need to make more informed benefit and care decisions.

“One of the main tenets of the Affordable Care Act is to provide choice to individuals and small businesses when it comes to health plan benefits and pricing,” said William Delmage, president, WD & Associates, Inc. “The ability to select multiple plan designs through Multi-Choice will be an attractive and cost-effective option for many small businesses.”

With the addition of Rhode Island, Multi-Choice will be available in 29 states. For more information on Multi-Choice and other UnitedHealthcare benefit plans, visit www.uhc.com.
