Underscoring the company's ongoing commitment to helping Floridians of
all ages live healthier, fuller lives, UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth
Group (NYSE:UNH) company, has completed its planned purchase of
Preferred Care Partners (Preferred Care) and Medica HealthCare Plans
(Medica), senior-focused health plans with operations primarily in South
and Central Florida.
Preferred Care Partners and Medica add strong local focus to
UnitedHealthcare's national health care expertise and resources, further
demonstrating UnitedHealthcare's dedication to serving health care
consumers across Florida.

Preferred Care, based in Miami, serves more than 50,000 Medicare
Advantage members in South Florida, Central Florida and the Tampa area.
In 2011, Preferred Care began serving Medicaid beneficiaries through its
CareFlorida plan, which has 5,000 members. As part of the transaction,
UnitedHealthcare acquired Preferred Care's six medical centers in
Miami-Dade County.
Medica, based in Coral Gables, serves more than 35,000 Medicare
beneficiaries, 7,000 Medicaid beneficiaries - as well as roughly 1,000
individual and 800 small group commercial members - in Miami?Dade and
Broward counties. As part of the transaction, UnitedHealthcare acquired
Medica's two medical centers, located in Miami-Dade County.
The senior and Medicaid products offered by Preferred Care and Medica
join a robust UnitedHealthcare portfolio in Florida, which includes
employer-sponsored health plans, individual plans, Medicare Advantage
plans, Medicare Supplement plans, Part D prescription drug plans,
Medicaid managed care plans, chronic disease management and care
coordination programs.
UnitedHealth Group employs more than 5,000 Floridians and has invested
significant resources in communities throughout the state.
UnitedHealthcare supports Step Up For Students, a nonprofit that
administers the Florida Tax Credit Scholarship for low-income students.
United Health Foundation's Diverse Scholars Initiative promotes future
professional involvement in the health industry among students from
multicultural backgrounds.
