OMZ Special Steels, part of OMZ Group, successfully forged an ingot of 420 tonnes at an automated forging complex ÀÊÊ-12000. The ingot was casted in the late December 2013 from the steel of 15Õ2ÍÌÔÀ grade class 1.

The forged shell was manufactured for active zone of VVER-TOI reactor developed by the general design engineer of nuclear power stations of JSC Atomenergoproekt, part of Rosatom state corporation. The shell is six meters long. It is the first time that a product of such length was forged in Russia.

The ingot went through heat processing and was delivered to Izhorskiye Zavody for further mechanical processing. After that it will undergo general heat treatment.

R&D works on development of a new technology and mastering the manufacturing of reactor vessels are performed by OMZ Special Steels in line with the VVER-TOI project. Works are being executing in cooperation with OMZ-Izhora, JSC CNIITMASH, CRISM "Prometei". The typical design of VVER-TOI project is based on an optimized and informative-advanced VVER power unit with increased electric capacity up to 1,225 MW and improved safety systems.

It is planned to accomplish manufacturing of the standard test shell of reactor vessel for the VVER-TOI project by June 2014.
