The following table lists unplanned and planned production outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.
Valero Energy Corp. (>> Valero Energy Corporation) on May 16 said the alkylation unit and FCCU at its Meraux, La., refinery are in restart and will be operating at normal rates by June 1. The units had been down since January as part of planned maintenance turnaround.
Valero Energy Corp. on May 16 said a brief power outage at its Memphis, Tennessee, on May 14 resulted in flaring, but had no material impact to production.
Valero Energy Corp. on May 15 reported compressor problems at its Houston and Port Arthur, Texas, refineries. Neither plant experienced any material impact to production, the company said on May 16.
BP PLC (BP) on May 15 said planned flaring could occur at its Carson, Calif., refinery through May 21; the flaring isn't associated with equipment breakdown, a filing to environmental regulators said.
Delek US Holdings, Inc. (>> Delek US Holdings, Inc.) on May 15 its Tyler, Texas, refinery is expected to average between 45,000 and 50,000 barrels-a-day, down from 62,000 b/d, while repairs continue at the plant's FCCU. The unit was shut May 10 after a May 7 restart attempt failed.
Also on May 15, Delek said its El Dorado, Arkansas, refinery has been operating at reduced rates since May 1 due to the temporary suspension of crude oil deliveries from its supplier Exxon Mobil. The company has secured additional feedstocks that should allow the refinery to average total throughput of at least 60,000 barrels a day during May and June, which is down from its boiler-plate capacity of 70,000 barrels a day.
Traders doing business with Chevron Corp. (>> Chevron Corporation) on May 14 said the May 12 planned unit shutdown at Chevron's Richmond, Calif., refinery involves the FCCU and hydrotreater unit. Maintenance is expected to last for two weeks, they said. Chevron on May 12 notified California state environmental regulators of possible emissions during the unit shutdown.
Exxon Mobil Corp. (>> Exxon Mobil Corporation) on May 14 said work is progressing to restart the compressor that malfunctioned last week at its oil refinery in Beaumont, Texas. The compressor snag occurred at the same coker unit recently restarted after several weeks of turnaround maintenance; it had reached normal operating rates on May 10, the company said at that time.
Separately, on May 14, Exxon Mobil said a hydrocracker unit taken off line on May 10 is returning to normal operations following repairs to its recycle compressor.
Sunoco Inc.'s (>> Sunoco, Inc.) Philadelphia refinery crude unit shut by a brief fire on May 9 is expected to restart on May 17, a person familiar with the plant said on May 14.
