Van Lanschot Nominates UniCredit's Karl Guha as New CEO

Dutch private bank Van Lanschot NV (>> VAN LANSCHOT) Thursday said it has nominated Karl Guha as its new chief executive. Mr.Guha will replace Floris Deckers, who will retire, and will execute the bank's planned restructuring.
Mr.Guha will join Van Lanschot's management board Jan. 1, 2013. Currently, Mr.Guha is member of the executive management committee of UniCredit Group (>> UniCredit SpA) and chief risk officer since 2009. Before that, he served 18 years for ABN Amro in various capacities and countries, lastly as group treasurer. An extraordinary shareholders' meeting to approve the proposed appointment will be held in the fall.
The departure of Mr.Deckers, who has been CEO since 2004, was announced in January, together with a restructuring plan necessary to counter economic headwinds.
Van Lanschot will cut 10%-15% of its 2,000-strong workforce in coming years to generate 60 million euros ($74.9 million) in annual cost savings.
Van Lanschot launched its restructuring effort after the large Dutch banks, ING Groep NV (>> ING GROEP), Rabobank Group and ABN Amro Bank NV, had announced their plans. Many banks are reducing their workforce to increase efficiency amid stricter regulation and macroeconomic uncertainties.
