Pipeline replacement project underway in Shelbyville; one recently completed

Shelbyville, Ind. - Vectren Energy Delivery (Vectren) will soon begin the second phase of a three-phase pipeline replacement project to replace nearly 3,500 feet of aging, six-inch steel pipeline in Shelbyville. The
$231,000 project will include replacing the pipeline running west of State Road 44 on Hendricks Street to N. Noble Street and north to W. Washington Street. This project is one of several gas infrastructure
improvements being made during Vectren's multi-year plan to modernize its gas infrastructure throughout
Indiana.
"To ensure the continued reliability of our natural gas pipeline systems and service, Vectren is continuing to modernize our system to improve the gas infrastructure in the Vectren North territory," said Mike Roeder, Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana - North president. "These infrastructure enhancements are vital to meeting federal requirements and ensuring the continued safety of our system."
A polyethylene (plastic) system will be installed to replace the current pipeline system. First, the gas main, often located underneath the street or sidewalk, will be replaced within the right-of-way, and then the service lines running directly to homes and businesses will be replaced. Upon completion of the project, affected yards, sidewalks and streets will be restored.
Phase two of the project is expected to continue through the end of the year. A small amount of customers will be affected during construction and will be notified prior to the start of work. If after being notified customers still have questions, they are encouraged to contact Customer Service at 1-800-227-1376.
Crews in Shelbyville recently completed a separate, $110,000 project at Knightstown Road and the I-74 overpass, replacing approximately 760 feet of four-inch, medium-pressure steel pipeline. The pipeline replacement project was completed in late August, and no customers were affected during the construction.
