Vectren opens new Marion operating center

Marion, Ind. - Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana-North (Vectren) plans to cut the ribbon Thursday, December 11, at its new, $2.1 million operating center in Marion. The new facility houses approximately
25 employees, primarily in field operations, who serve customers in the Marion, Huntington and Gas City areas. The new building provides space to accommodate positions that will support the ongoing efforts by Vectren to modernize its natural gas infrastructure.
"The opening of this operating center marks a special milestone for both the city of Marion and Vectren," said Mike Roeder, vice president of government affairs and president of Vectren North. "We are proud to make the investment in bricks and mortar as well as technology to help further enhance the service our customers receive."
The construction of the 10,000-square-foot facility creates a more modern operations center, including information technology enhancements and smart audio visual equipment for employee training, and replaces the existing 110-year-old building that has been demolished. Since it is replacing an older facility, the new structure adds $50,000 to $70,000 in property taxes that Vectren pays to Marion City Center Township.
Vectren engaged Indiana contractors to design and construct the new facility, including many that are located within Marion or in central Indiana. Area contractors involved in the project include Edwards- Rigdon Construction Co., Irving Materials Inc., Jack Himelick Gravel Co., Star Excavating, Keeley Flooring, Mr. Window Tint, Triple J Plumbing LLC, LeMaster Steel Erectors Inc., Hammans Mechanical Inc. and Brooks Construction Co.
The new building is located adjacent to the existing facility at 3242 South Nebraska Street. The building is located on the west edge of the city's community revitalization partnership known as the Magnificent Seven, of which Vectren was a founding member.
