Chingola, Oct 7, 2015: Today Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), along with fellow mining companies and the Chamber of Mines of Zambia, met with five Cabinet Ministers from the Government of the Republic of Zambia.


The discussions focused on the steps that need to be taken to ensure the ongoing viability of the mining sector and its ultimate return to prosperity. There was a full and frank discussion with all parties contributing constructively. There was recognition of the importance of doing everything possible to preserve jobs, as well as the importance of securing competitive power prices.


KCM was very encouraged by the engagement of the government ministers and is confident that the challenges the industry currently faces can be met, given the goodwill of all the parties. The company remains optimistic about the long term potential of the Zambian copper sector.


The Cabinet team comprised the Minister of Finance, Honourable Alexander Chikwanda, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development, Hon. Christopher Yaluma, Minister of Labour and Social Security, Hon. Fackson Shamenda, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Margaret Mwanakatwe and Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Hon. Chishimba Kambwili.
