Veidekke's Swedish subsidiary Arcona has been awarded the contract by Jernhusen to build the Eldaren quarter in Storgatan in Uppsala as a turnkey contract. The contract includes erecting a new commercial building around 8,900 square metres in size right next to the central station, Uppsala concert and congress centre and the old freight warehouse, which includes both shops and restaurants. The projects starts in February and is scheduled for completion in June 2016. The contract is for SEK 130 million excluding VAT.

The building will be six storeys high with a large roof terrace, and the total gross floor area will be around 8,900 square metres shared between offices, shops and restaurants. The property is already largely leased to Uppsala County Council, which is leasing the entire office section.

The building will be built according to the Sweden Green Building Council system with Silver rating.

"We are looking forward to partnering with Arcona on this project. They have extensive experience in building at central locations, which is one of the challenges with the Eldaren quarter," says Björn Johnson, project manager for Jernhusen.

"With our experience from the Åhléns project at Stora torget in Uppsala, we are now taking on this logistically challenging and complex project. The proximity to the existing building in full operation just eight metres away is an challenge, while we must not disrupt traffic or inconvenience the public," says Stefan Mårtensson, business manager with Arcona.

"The project is an excellent stepping stone for Arcona's continued expansion in Uppsala.
