Veolia Environnement : founding partner of Airlab, the first air quality innovation accelerator

On National Air Quality Day, Airparif is launching AIRLAB, the first air quality innovation accelerator. Veolia is a founder partner of the initiative.
In the context of this platform, the Group will develop an innovative project in collaboration with Icade. It will focus on testing a new generation of sensors to control indoor air quality in office buildings.
Air quality in the Ile-de-France region is improving, but too many people are still being exposed to levels of pollution that exceed the recommendations laid down by World Health Organization (WHO). To further improve air quality, the AIRLAB ecosystem proposes an open and collaborative innovation approach through its partners and its community, which brings together users, businesses (start-ups and SMEs), research institutes, local authorities, the state, and citizens.
The AIRLAB platform is being launched by Airparif in partnership with Région Ile-de-France, Mairie de Paris, Métropole du Grand Paris, the prefecture for the region, Ile-de-France Mobilités, Veolia, SNCF Logistics, Air Liquide, Icade, Citelum - EDF Group - and Engie France réseaux.
From its launch, AIRLAB is supporting 6 innovative projects in the following fields: urban logistics, air quality in buildings, urban furniture, heating, citizen information and mobility, and citizen participation.
In the framework of AIRLAB, Icade and Veolia will jointly implement an innovative project, relating to the development of a new generation of sensors, which will measure and continuously act on indoor air quality: ventilation, recycling indoor air, measuring hygrometry, CO, fine particles, and volatile organic compounds.
Veolia and Icade have called on several innovative start-ups to design these sensors. This open-innovation approach will give rise to initial tests in the spring of 2018, notably on tower PB5 in La Défense (Ile-de-France).

Veolia Environnement is the world leader in environmental management services. Net sales break down by activity as follows:
- water-related services (40.6%; No. 1 worldwide): water resources management, drinking water distribution and delivery, wastewater collection, treatment and recovery, engineering, design, construction of water treatment facilities and customer relationship management, etc.;
- waste management services (32.4%; no. 1 worldwide): collection, treatment and recycling of liquid, solid, non-hazardous and hazardous waste, waste treatment and recovery through composting, energy recovery from waste, etc. Veolia Environnement also provides urban waste management services (maintenance and cleaning of public spaces, provision of mechanized street cleaning and façade treatment services), maintenance of industrial sites, and dismantling of industrial facilities and equipment at the end of their useful life;

Net sales are distributed geographically as follows: France (21.5%), Europe (41.9%), North America (7.4%), Asia (5.6%), Africa and the Middle East (4.9%), Pacific (4.3%), Latin America (4%) and other (10.4%).
