Velika Gorica, September 24th 2015

On Monday February 23rd, Mr. Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Croatia, Ms. Sandra Švaljek, Deputy of Mayor presently in function of the Mayor of the City of Zagreb, Mr. Stjepan Kožić, Head of Zagreb County and Mr. Dražen Barišić, Mayor of Velika Gorica visited the construction site of the new passenger terminal of the Zagreb International Airport and expressed their satisfaction with progression of works according to envisaged schedule of works.

On behalf of the Zagreb International Airport, they were greeted by Mr. Bruno Mazurkiewicz, President of the Management Board of the Zagreb International Airport and Mr. David Gabelica, Member of the Management Board of the Zagreb International Airport. At the very beginning a film was shown, an aerial survey made in December 2014 which showed the striking contours of the new passenger terminal of the Zagreb International Airport. The film was followed by presentation which indicated successful transport traffic results, increased number of companies and destinations and increased transport traffic of 5,7 percent in 2014. Furthermore, January 2015 registered an increased number of passengers for 11 percent, and similar trend continued in February 2015. At the construction site, the assembled guests were addressed by Mr. Joško Mikulić, President of Viadukt Management Board, who spoke about the progress and the current state of works at the construction site.

There are in total more than 900 workers engaged daily at the construction site of the new passenger terminal of which 875 workers belong to the Croatian construction sector. New passenger terminal is a building at four levels consisting of the rectangular layout main frame and of two asymmetric piers (the west pier for the international departures and arrivals and the east pier for the domestic traffic). The first two levels are used for arrivals and the second two are used for departures. There are eight air-bridges connected to the north facade. Supporting frame of the building consists of round columns and beams of reinforced concrete in span combinations of 7,2 m and 14,4 m, with prestressed concrete decks and four reinforced concrete kerns for vertical communication. Departure level can be reached by vehicles through reinforced concrete viaduct at the front side. Above the concrete construction there is corrugated steel structure which combines the roof and piers of the main frame with the north front side. Steel structure creates double height volume, at the landside and at the airside. South, east and west front sides are flat aluminium curtains with structural glazing. The roof is partially glazed, and partially covered by most modern aluminium shield. The building is equipped with complete infrastructure typical for a 21st century airport terminal.
